There is no question that you can make a lot of money in the Forex markets. You can also lose a lot if you do not know what you are doing! If you have a decent amount of money and want an alternative for you money to the exceptionally low interest rates available from banks at the moment, then perhaps managed Forex accounts are for you.

If you are highly sceptical whether a $99 robot or $1,200 a year signal service will not pass muster, and if you are interested in gentle equity growth curves that represent conservative trading, then you should definitely take a look at what companies that offer managed Forex accounts have to offer.

How Do Managed Forex Accounts Work?

Managed Forex generally work in the following way. The company that runs the fund(s) will have one master account or several smaller ones that offer different strategies. You can either choose the strategy that best suits your needs based on the latter model, or go with the collected efforts of the traders in the former.

When the fund makes a monthly profit, you will get your share of the pot based on how much you put in. The fund management company will take their share as profits, and this can be anything from 25-40%.

A model that is used by hedge funds, should you choose to go with one is that of the “highwater mark”.

When a hedge fund applies a high water mark to a managed account, the management company will only receive performance fees when the value of profits is greater than the previous greatest value. If the trading strategy has a bad month, the management company must bring it back above the previous greatest value before they can receive performance fees again.

How Do Forex Rebates Work?

Forex rebates literally mean you get a cheque back from your broker at the end of every month based on your trade volume. If you are trading a live account regularly and not using this service, you are literally throwing money away!

Let me give you a quick example of how they work.

Trader A and Trader B both open accounts with the same broker, depositing $5,000 each into their trading accounts.

Trader A applies for an account directly with the broker whereas Trader B applies through the special Aslan coded broker referral link which takes her to the same application as Trader A, but automatically assigns The Aslan Group as the Introducing Broker.

For the sake of this example, let’s say that both traders place the exact same trades. These total 40 lots in their first month and they both end the month with a $4,900 balance ( $100 in trading losses ).

Since Trader B registered via The Aslan Group, they will receive a rebate of approximately $240.00 ( 40 lots x $6.00/lot ). Although Trader B has lost $100 in their trading account, the $240.00 paid by Aslan actually puts them in a positive net position for the month.

Trader A on the other hand will receive nothing and maintains his negative net position for the month.

The only difference is that Trader B registered for their trading account by clicking the Aslan Group link.

I have been successfully trading gold and silver for several years, having bought very near the bottom of the market in both markets.

You may think, as many people do, that trading gold and silver is dangerous – “It’s too late”, “When the man in the street starts doing it, it’s all over”, “It’s a bubble”. Why I am Trading Gold and Silver

As a professional Forex trader, I am well aware of the fact that gold and silver are money. The fiat currencies (i.e. not backed by any tangible asset) we have today are, historically, an anomaly.

Every single fiat currency since the Roman Empire created the first fiat system in the 1st Century AD has ended in devaluation and eventual collapse – not only of the currency itself, but of the economy that used the fiat currency as well.

I am a big believer that we should all be aware of history – those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. The simple fact of the matter is, history is not on the side of fiat currencies in any way, so one of the reason I am interested in precious metals is an insurance policy against eventual currency collapse.

Another reason is that, whilst gold and silver have made great gains over the last few years (gold in particular, silver more recently), a large amount of their rise is not attributable to the commodities themselves becoming more valuable – rather, governments in the US, Euro Zone and UK have been printing enormous quantities of cash. The value of the metals isn’t really going up, rather it shows you how the currencies are being devalued.

So I am investing in them to protect myself from inflation.

Historically, I have never been a fan of automatic Forex trading (also know as automated Forex trading, Forex robots and Forex Expert Advisors (EAs)).

The reason is not that I am averse to sitting back and letting a robot trade for me and make me loads of money – quite the opposite! The reason is that, until quite recently, Forex robots had one major issue – they didn’t work.

OK, some did work for a while, but it is extremely hard to develop an automatic Forex trading program that can work in all market conditions. Many system creators attempted to offer updated settings and new versions to work in current market conditions, but most of these ultimately failed.

Before you despair, I have begun to change my mind – here’s why.

Automatic Forex Trading – My Recent Experiences

Two years ago I started working with a developer who has created a very profitable automatic Forex trading system. It only works in very special circumstances, once a week but it makes very good profits and this began changing my opinions of automatic Forex trading.

This year we have seen the release of one or two Forex robots that have done very well – one of these makes a lot of money just on broker rebates, and I am starting to think that this might have potential again after some very poor past experiences.

I do know for a fact that the big investment banks on Wall Street use automated trading – mostly on the stock market – and that their robotic systems, called High Frequency Trading, does actually make a lot of money.

The main concern is, if you had a very profitable system, why would you share it? And why would you sell it for $99? I am sure that there are a lot of people out there with good systems that they would never sell, but as already stated, it seems like better systems are becoming available and you shouldn’t give up on the concept just yet.
