VPS-Virtual private server

All you techno gurus out there, please help. To trade through a VPS to run Robots, EA's to move stoplosses etc.
I search "Vps" on Google and this world is too big for me. I've seen Marc is also busy setting up stuff on a VPS. Can somebody explain to me how it work and who will be the best to use.
What sort of interface will i see. I also joined Forex Trade Alarms and my internet and power supply in SA is not reliable at this moment

Hi Johan,

As I understand it, a VPS is like having your own computer, only at a distance on the internet - in a big server farm so it has an uniterruptable power supply and permanent internet connection. So if it is running windows, for example, all you do is upload the applications you want to run, just liek on your own home computer, eg MT4 and various bots, then either run it manually at a distance by loggin in, or let the robots run automatically.

Hi Johan, I have a number of vps.Its just like having a completely separate computer so you dont have to fill up your home computer. You can access from anywhere in the world. The attraction is that they are guaranteed to run 99.9% of the time so is ideal if you have a poor internet connection.

I use an english company, called VPS hosting for Windows, FileMaker, and Dedicated Servers - RapidHost Ltd.. You can get a basic vps for approximately $25 a month including taxes. On there you can run 1 copy of metatrader without any problems. I have an upgraded version that runs 5 platforms ( I use it to test new techniques). I have been using them for 3 months & they are very good. no problems so far!But there are loads to choose from on the internet Regards, Fabio

Hi Johan,
I am using Swvps.com - USA & UK Virtual Private Servers - OpenVZ and XEN, Forex VPS as my vps. The price is 20,50 dollars per month and you can pay using paypal. I have been using them for 8 months now without problem. I am running 4 different metatrader and had no problem.
After connecting to the vps and open your computer you will see a local C: drive (on the server) plus your hard disks (c: d: etc). Then you can transfer files (ea's ) from your computer to the vps. It is somehow slow but anyway you do not need to work with it all the time. After installing your platform and ea you check it once or twice per day (if you want) to see if everything is ok or change settings etc.
You need some technical knowledge to set the whole thing up. If you are the type that has a problem installing an indicator, changing settings, installing an ea etc then it is not going to be that easy but eventually you will figure out how it works.
Their support is very nice and there is a section with questions and answers where you will find a lot of useful information.

I use IX for VPS hosting. You can either buy Windows or Linux hosting. I use Windows hosting because I'm used to Windows and I think its the best operating system out there. But that's just me. I know there are a lot of people that like Linux much better.
