    Default MT4 Live Update warning

I was trying to install a new EA on my MT4 main platform, when it came up with a dialogue box for Live Update which seems to be an MT4 updating function.

I don't recall ever having this before. Anyway I clicked on it and it has updated the application.

I have many customised EAs, Indicators and Templates.

The templates folder has reverted to the default, scrubbing clean all my evolution of customised templates for the currencies I trade and all the trendlines, EMAs, notes and other stuff I have on the charts.

Very annoying and a warning to others to say no to a Live Update till you have backed up all the customised things you have. It just means copying the experts, templates and indicators folders somewhere else then putting them back.

I hope this helps others avoid this problem.

I'm backing my stuff up to do a system restore. What a bother!

    Hi Julian
I am not sure if a Live Update creates all this. At least the indicators and EA's stay as it is. I am not sure about the templates. But anyway it is a good habit to take backups from time to time. Anyway we are not adding too many things like indicators or EA's every day so once a month will be more than enough.
Making Live Updates is necessary because it will correct programming problems or will improve performance.

Same happened to me on my life account at interbankfx . I downloaded it the first time ..............after the down load I couldn’t open the platform. I re- installed the MT4 but still couldn’t open it. I had to get someone in that helped me backdate my computer to a previous version that worked before the stuff – only then was I able to download and open the MT 4 again. I still get this bloody window when I open my platform..................I can’t manage to lose the thing. I just cancel it every day when I open my platform.

I've restored everything, at some cost in grey hairs, done no trading, and managed to flood my downstairs neighbour's kitchen somewhat. Had to go round and profusely apologise and ply him with beers. Generally not a good day.

My superpower needs to be some sort of fluid reversal!!

Hmm, done numerous updates and never any problem. On Windows 7 you need to run MT4 in administrator mode in order to have LiveUpdate launch, but after that start MT4 as normal. It will be updated.

    @ Pierre

Yes, that's the Live Update dialogue box. I agree with Caps that it is best to keep your MT4 updated to the latest version. I suggest you put in a Restore Point, take a full backup of MT4, then do the update. Then if there are any problems you can put back your EAs, indicators, templates etc. or go back to before the update if there are what we technical people call a %^*&up!.

Have a nice day. It's lovely and sunny here in London, so what am I doing stuck in front of a computer??!! Someone remind me to get a life

Creating regular restore points is good housekeeping.

Having Off-line/Near-line Back-ups are also recommended.

I use this free software to automatically back-up my PC without thinking about it.

Allway Sync: Free File Synchronization, Backup, Data Replication, PC Sync Software, Freeware, File Sync, Data Synchronization Software

Now days you can even Back-up 1-2Gb of Data to Internet sites free of charge.

I often think about that saying "treat FX as a hobby, it will pay as a hobby".

A well run business would carry out Risk Assessments and have Business Continuity Plans.

A good Trader should do the same.
