    Default Latest posts

Just noticed that the new posts page starts with new unread posts and then goes to other threads that still contain unread posts. GIven that many of these might be unread for a reason (ie no relevance), wouldn't it make more sense to have this list recently updated threads in order, whether they've been read or not?

Otherwise, you might note a new post/thread, read it, and then return and be unable to find it. This happened for me. I know Alex put up a post about timeframes yesterday. I wanted to comment today, but have no idea where it is. If the 'new posts' page really went through 'new/newest posts', rather than 'unread posts', it would be easy for me to find.

Think this is how most forums I'm on do this. Or am I missing a really easy way to set the preferences to achieve this?

    Hello,

On one of my forums I built a page that displays the last 150 threads and called it recent posts.

Is that the sort of functionality that you are looking for here?

Doesn't really matter how many if they're in order of most recently added/contributed to. That would be very useful.

My, that site was an eye-opener.

I replaced the functionality behind the New Posts link in the navigation bar.

Now you get more recent 25 threads instead of only new posts.

Currently working on a new entry entitled 'please stop changing the forum'. The new changes (sorry, I couldn't find the technical/IT page) appear to hate firefox AND opera.

AND...the 'Recent Posts' doesn't seem to show all of the most recent posts within the Members' area. It's not, for instance, showing this thread or this reply. We used to have a 'New Posts' function that really showed the most recent posts (and therefore the most active threads)

Sorry, having posted this originally, then spent five minutes finding the IT/system thread, I'm not going to go searching for that again, so feel free to wipe.

AND, part two--it would be useful if, when one went to the individual forums (the Private One for instance) the threads below the stickies were arranged in 'recent activity' order. Currently, they seem to be organized in the order in which they were started, which certainly doesn't drive traffic or give the idea of an active forum.

I WILL shut up now, before I take my copy of Jakob Nielsen and brain someone with it

Ah, here's the system page. The new forum doesn't appear to like firefox or opera, at least when using 'reply to thread'--doesn't let you use the cursor to re-locate within a post, and lots of other things--can't highlight text to delete or move, etc. Though, entertainingly, the quick reply I'm currently using DOES.

However, most irritating is the demand to re-login every two or three clicks between different pages. If you want a guaranteed way to drive people away from the site, I would think this is it.

I have to use 'Quick Reply'--the 'reply to thread' functionality is borked (can't highlight text and move it, or delete, can't simply click the cursor in a place somewhere in what you've just typed to add a letter or delete). May just be me, the functionality of the 'new posts' and searches is more concerning.

And Happy New Year to you too Vassilis.

    Hello again.
As far as I am concerned I do not get logged out every few clicks, and if I want to move something I simply highlight it and drag it to the place I want. If I want to copy (and not move it) when I drag the highlighted text while I keep the CTRL key pressed. I am using firefox (version 8) and I do not have problems highlighting text and/or deleting, moving etc
Try to install the latest version of firefox in case you did not. Another thing that might help is to clear the cache from tools/options/advanced.

This is a 'reply to thread'. I have no blinking cursor, and no ability to move around within the message pane. I can't highlight an area of text and delete it, though I can highlight and move it. And I can't hit 'return' to start a new para. And (this should be a separate para!) the reply 'you need to upgrade' isn't guaranteed to do much but raise the blood pressure. However, I don't use the site much anymore anyway, so it;'s mostly irrelevant.

A couple of browser refreshes seem to have helped. Might be initial bugginess from my end. Not helping on the need for logging in though, it's just not being remembered by the cookie cache. Anyhoo.

And I see that the 'New Post' thing has reverted to the set up after the last forum re-development--it keeps constantly in the search field any thread that has unread posts, whereas they might be unread for very good reason (ie they don't interest that particular member). Would suggest changing so it privileges simply threads with the most recent posts in them?

@fabio I tried sending this as a PM but the forum spamfilter ('this forum requires you wait 2000 seconds between sending private messages'--what's that, 30 Mins?) stopped me
